The 1997 KIA Clarus was propelled by either a 1.8Liter petrol engine or a 2.0Liter petrol engine adopted from the Mazda 626. The engines were amazingly efficient and effective enabling the driver to push the car up to very high speeds owing to the horse power of about 179, as well as do long trips with maximum reliability. The interior of the car was characterized by comfortable seats as well as adequate leg room and space for a great driving experience.

The KIA drive system of the KIA Clarus employed the use of front wheel as well as a choice of two transmission formats; the four gear automatic shaft, or the 5 gear manual shaft. The breaking system consisted of front and rear tire breaking disks. Weighing in at 1230kgs, the KIA Clarus was about 190inches long, 70inches wide, and 56 inches tall and with a ground clearance of approximately 7inches. Furthermore, the KIA Clarus has a wheel base of about 105inches.

The KIA Clarus was sold relatively cheaply compared to other cars that were affiliated with the KIA Company.
